IBCCES Autism Center

Allegany Museum is proud to have worked with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) to become a Certified Autism Center.  We are dedicated to providing the best educational experience possible for all of our visitors!

  • All of our volunteers have received autism and sensory training from IBCCES so they can best welcome every visitor who comes to the museum, including autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals and their families.
  • Families and individuals can request access to the museum’s quiet space before or during their visit to the Allegany Museum.
  • We have sensory guides for each of our exhibits available below or at the volunteer desks on the first or second floors of the museum.
  • We offer private tours and low-sensory tours upon request. Please contact the museum to schedule one of these tours.

The Allegany Museum became a Certified Autism Center with support from the Passages of the Western Potomac Heritage Area.

The museum hours are from April to December, Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you would like to schedule a group tour outside of these hours, please contact the museum at 301-777-7200 so we can make arrangements to share our history and culture with your group.
