FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Allegany Museum will mark a milestone on Friday, September 11, when the George Washington Whiskey Rebellion Fest returns for its 10th year. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the museum, located at 3 Pershing Street in Cumberland.
The annual festival commemorates George Washington’s final visit to Cumberland during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. The evening will feature spirit tastings, live music, historical reenactments, colonial games, catered food, a silent auction, and more.
Participating distillers and beverage makers include Tenth Ward Distilling Company, Fordham Lee Distillery, Rosie Cheeks Distillery, Charis Winery, Pathfinder Farm Distillery, Shmidt Spirits, Gray Wolf Craft Distilling, McClintock Distilling Company, Church Street Distilling Company, Wigle Whiskey Distillery, and Old Forester Bourbon.
This year’s featured musical entertainment will be the Chivalrous Crickets, a Philadelphia-based group specializing in Scots-Irish music. Presented by Mountainside Baroque, the group will perform at 7 p.m., 7:45 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
Historical reenactors will bring the Whiskey Rebellion to life throughout the museum. Ryan Cuba will also return with a collection of 18th-century colonial tavern games for guests to play, including historic dice and card games and tabletop challenges such as Nine Men’s Morris and Fox and Geese.
Author and event sponsor Jon Ketzner will sign copies of his new novel, Coincidence, which explores the assassination of President John F. Kennedy through a combination of historical detail and provocative speculation.
Guests can also bid in the festival’s premier silent auction, featuring Caribbean vacation packages, West Virginia University football tickets, artwork by local artists, local experiences, and other special packages. The auction will also include several “Year of” certificates from local businesses, which were a major hit at last year’s auction.
Good Carma Catering will provide food throughout the evening, with selections including beef, bacon, and bleu sliders with whiskey bacon jam, bourbon barbecue smoked-pork sliders, vegetable potstickers, and more.
The George Washington Whiskey Rebellion Fest is presented by the Community Trust Foundation in partnership with Boggs and Company Wealth Management.
The Whiskey Rebellion Fest is the Allegany Museum’s largest annual fundraiser. Proceeds help keep museum admission free, support educational programming for students and adults, and preserve more than 50,000 artifacts that tell the story of Allegany County and the surrounding region.
General admission includes festival entry, unlimited spirit tastings, an open beer and wine bar, catered food and appetizers, entertainment, reenactments, colonial games, and a goodie bag. Tickets are $60 in advance and $80 at the door.
